Delivering top-tier performance without the resource drain of legacy engines

Anchored by m8 principles

We are obsessed with workflows. And we believe in eight fundamental principles,'m8', that guide everything we build.

m8 Principles

  1. merge flows effectively: streamline complex workflows.
  2. make apps faster: speed up development and deployment.
  3. manage processes better: bring structure and clarity to execution.
  4. minimize errors: reduce mistakes through automation.
  5. maximize efficiency: get more done with fewer resources.
  6. model workflows visually: design with simplicity and clarity.
  7. modernize systems: upgrade legacy processes seamlessly.
  8. mobilize innovation: enable swift builds and experimentation.

Tackling ‘Current’ limitations.

Why m8flow instead of traditional workflow engines?

1

Resource Light Engine

+

Major BPMN engines (Camunda, jBPM, Activiti, Flowable) are Java-based and typically require substantial Legacy BPMN engines (like Camunda 7, jBPM, or Flowable) rely on heavy Java stacks that consume substantial CPU, heap, and disk space even for modest workloads. m8flow is designed to be resource-light. Built on SpiffWorkflow, it delivers full BPMN 2.0 and DMN orchestration without the bloated infrastructure or cloud costs of a JVM.

2

Native to Your Python Ecosystem

+

Modern data, AI, and web development run on Python. Traditional Java engines force you to cross runtime boundaries using complex middleware, REST APIs, or external workers. m8flow runs natively in pure Python. Your orchestration logic can securely and directly invoke your existing Django, Flask, FastAPI services, and ML libraries without a JVM sidecar.

3

Predictable Costs & Truly Open Source

+

Even with open-source Java engines, enterprises face complex runtime licensing such as Oracle’s employee-based Java SE pricing, which can lead to unpredictable cost spikes. m8flow eliminates JVM procurement and licensing headaches. Released under an open LGPL-3.0 license, it provides a highly scalable, multi-tenant alternative with zero vendor lock-in or hidden maintenance fees.

4

Architected for an AI-Driven Future

+

Traditional BPMN engines are proven in regulated environments because they emphasize audit trails and deterministic execution. However, they struggle to adapt to modern AI. While legacy platforms bolt on AI through complex external modules and connectors, m8flow is built with Python-native AI integration in mind. Invoking custom ML models, agentic tools, and human-in-the-loop steps can be implemented directly within your Python stack, bridging the gap between strict enterprise controls and next-gen AI capabilities.
