Celebrating Milestones: FOI Project Team’s Annual Gathering 2024

Continuing a fond tradition, AOT Technologies joined their teammates from the BC Government on the Freedom of Information Modernization Project (FOI) in late November 2024. This year’s gathering, to celebrate a year of incredible milestones and achievements, marked the completion of over 40 production releases – a testament to the team’s unwavering commitment to innovation and excellence.

The past year was particularly successful, with key achievements including:

  • The launch of the Document Redaction App.
  • Successful implementation of Historical Search and Document Migration.
  • Deployment of CFD Personal Document Management.
  • Integration of External Public Body FOI Consults.

These major achievements were complemented by numerous small-to-medium feature releases, collectively driving substantial improvements to the FOI modernization initiative. Earlier this year, the FOI Modernization Team was honored with the prestigious Star Award for Guiding Innovation by the BC Ministry of Citizens’ Services. This recognition underscores the team’s dedication to solving complex challenges, fostering collaboration, and delivering impactful solutions. Loren Mullane, Director of FOI Modernization, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the team’s efforts, saying:

Our dedicated group of AOT team members have been the engine that made this award possible. They tirelessly pursue business value and user feedback, love solving complex problems, and work together as a team to iteratively deliver the product. They are central to the team’s success.”

A Day of Fun and Togetherness

For this year’s gathering, the group enjoyed an outdoor activity using the Scavenger Hunt App, an engaging experience that turned downtown Victoria into a playground of fun and teamwork. Divided into teams, participants roamed the city solving app-generated clues and completing tasks, from taking team photos with creative gestures to tackling location-based challenges.

The gathering was attended by the following team members (left to right in the group photo): Jason Paulgaard, Nicholas Kan, Jocelyn Cabildo, Praveen Ramachandran, Aparna Sobha, Amber Waters, Richard Qi, Aman Hundal, Kyle Eggleston, Lise Mino, Loren Mullane, Matthew Prodan, George Philip, Barry Hughes, James Bacigalupo, Nagaraja Chikkamagadi, and Abin Antony.

Looking Ahead

As the FOI modernization project progresses, the team remains focused on continuous improvement and innovation, including a potential Artificial Intelligence NLP implementation next year. They are driven by a shared vision to modernize FOI processes, making them more efficient and user-centric.

With their recent successes and this well-deserved recognition, the FOI Project Team exemplifies the power of collaboration, innovation, and a pursuit of excellence. Here’s to another year of groundbreaking achievements and shared celebrations!
